How Procrastination Cost Yusuph – The Day He Lost His Business Name Without Knowing

Just one month, that’s all the time my friend Yusuph needed to take action. But instead, he waited… Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and by the time he finally decided to act, it was more than six months later, too late. He had lost something incredibly valuable: the name of his business!

Yusuph first called me in July 2024 when he had a brilliant business idea. He had come up with a unique name that he believed would make his brand stand out in the market. His plan was clear: register the company, obtain a TIN, secure a business license, set up a website, and create social media accounts, all under one name. He wanted to start his entrepreneurial journey with a solid foundation.

I advised him to act quickly, explaining that business names don’t wait; anyone can register the name at any moment! But Yusuph hesitated for several reasons:

“Let me first gather enough money…”

“I’m still analyzing the business environment…”

“I’ll do it in a few weeks…”

“There’s no rush; these things take time…”

So, days turned into weeks, weeks into months. Then, in February 2025, nearly six months later, he called me again, but this time, he was frustrated and shocked.

“Someone has sabotaged me! I just found out my business name has already been taken. Someone else has registered a company with that name, created a website, and even set up social media accounts!”

The hard truth? No one sabotaged him. He lost his opportunity simply because he waited too long to act. Another entrepreneur, Mr. Daniel, who lived in Tegeta, had the same business idea. But unlike Yusuph, Danny took action. He registered the company, secured the TIN, obtained the business license, launched his website, and established his online presence, all under the name Yusuph originally wanted.

This left Yusuph in a difficult position:

  1. He lost the name he strongly believed in for his business.
  2. He had to start over, wasting time on rebranding and finding a new name.
  3. He felt disconnected from his original vision, as if he was being forced to start from scratch. 😞 He regretted waiting, but it was already too late.
